Joining us on today’s podcast are Alexandre Durand and Tom Carles – also known as Alex and Tom – who have been creating content about France and the French language since 2020.
Better known as AT Frenchies, this social media duo has captivated millions with their videos. Primarily based in the United States, they are back in Paris and were generous enough to pop into the studio to share with us their journey to success, their experience as French people abroad and even did a bit of myth-busting about ‘school French’ and ‘spoken French.’

With over 4 million social media followers, these two Parisians are clearly at the top of their game. Having met playing soccer as teenagers in the leafy Paris suburb of Boulogne-Billancourt, Tom and Alex became fast friends. After moving to the United States and soon after, finding themselves caught up in a global pandemic, the pair decided to start making video skits promoting French language and culture.
Now, four years later, they find themselves rubbing shoulders with the great and the good, often in some pretty exclusive places. But they still see themselves as two young soccer fans from Paris whose goal is to share the magic of France.
What exactly do they share?
“We heard people saying it’s so hard to learn French…so all of these stereotypes really motivated us to break those and show a different side to the French language,” they say on the pod.
Alex and Tom create funny, educational videos to help viewers pick up the language, as well as delving into French history, traditions and culture. As they say, AT Frenchies created their learning platform to be a place “where you can go beyond vocabulary drills and dive into the authentic French experience”.
