Here comes ‘Sophie in Paris’: Our newest children’s book

Some fun news from Paris: our newest children’s book is ready. There’s something timeless about this one and we think you’re going to love it.

Before we get into the details, save this link, this is where the pre-orders will launch on Friday and you will have to be quick if you want the extras (more on this later).

On this week’s podcast episode, we introduced you to the main character: Sophie, a daring little girl who lives in a tiny attic beside the Eiffel Tower.

I wrote the text and the illustrations are in Lina’s classic style, except this time there’s a touch of watercolour on the main character. Below is the image we discussed in depth in the podcast (Sophie ascending the Eiffel Tower).

How you can get a copy:

You will be able to pre-order a copy or two.. or three.. on this link from Friday, January 30th.

We’re self-publishing this book, just like all our others. This means we’re relying on this pre-sale to gauge interest. That way, we know how many copies to print. The printing costs are astronomical, and we simply can’t afford to take the risk of estimating how many to make. Pre-sales on Kickstarter allow us to know exactly how many people want exactly how many copies.

How you can get a special copy

As we explained in the show, we’ve been inspired by the real Eiffel Tower and the 72 names engraved in gold on the first floor. These are the names of the engineers and mathemeticians who made that project possible.

In our book, we will add the names of 72 of YOU instead, the people who will hopefully make this project possible. The illustration below is a draft example.

This is how your name, or perhaps your child’s name, can end up in a book that (historically, at least) will be on sale in places like the Louvre Museum and the famed Paris bookstores.

The spots on these ‘thank you’ pages usually sell out, so you will have to be quick to get a spot on the tower. After we published the episode today, I’ve already got emails from people enquiring about their spot.

There are also Kickstarter tiers that are a little higher: The Collector’s Edition is an illustrated and signed copy of the book, for example. Or, you can be forever drawn into the book as a background character if you really want to be part of the story.

We’ve already had three people keen to snag those characters, so perhaps reach out ahead of time too, if you’re interested.

Lastly: Who are we?

I realize there might be some new faces around here. Here’s a quick introduction to us and our work, from when American TV came to Paris for the Olympics.

Anyhow, the main thing to note is that this sale begins on Friday January 30th and won’t run for very long, as usual. We can’t wait to share this book with you. Here is the link to jump in on the pre-launch.
