A guide to the (many) secret vineyards of Paris

I always thought there was just one vineyard in Paris. In fact, I used to tell it as a fun fact.

“Did you know this vineyard here in Montmarte is the only one in Paris?” I’d tell friends and tourists and podcast listeners. I was even a little bit proud of this piece of trivia. Look, there it is pictured above.

Then one day, I got an email from a listener telling me that there was another one, a very hidden vineyard in the Parc Georges-Brassens in the 15th arrondissement.

Imagine my surprise! Suddenly this magical city boasted not one but two sets of grapevines. I could hardly contain my excitement.

But, my fun fact was blown out of the water thanks to today’s podcast guest, Geoffrey Finch of Paris Wine Walks, who says there are TWENTY vineyards in Paris. Yes, 20.

It sounds unbelievable, I know, but Geoffrey has dedicated his life to wine, Paris, and Paris vineyards and even gives tours of them, so he should know!

Have a listen to Geoff as he talks about the history of wine in Paris, where to find many of these vineyards, and his wine walking tours.

Meanwhile, about those hidden vineyards. I’ll give you the two main ones to start with. You’ll have to listen to the episode to hear a whole lot more.

And if you’re a member of the Earful, here’s the link with all the addresses and names mentioned in the show, plus a bunch of brilliantly grapey pictures 🙂

The Montmartre vineyard aka “Vignes du Clos Montmartre“.
Address: Rue des Saules, 75018.

The “second” vineyard aka Clos des Morillons.

Oh look, I visited the vineyard in this video from Christmas 2018!
