The South African teaching the French about slow cooking

Meet Kobus Botha, a South African chef who has mastered the barbecue (or braai).

Not only that, he’s been lugging his enormous grills all over Paris and France, sometimes cooking for thousands of people at a time.

I chatted with Kobus about his life in Paris, the ‘secret’ to becoming a barbecue king, and the trouble with the whole tu and vous thing in France.

We also discussed his latest project: cooking at a safari park to the west of Paris, with African animals running around in the background.
