Summer is around the corner and it’s the ideal time to start planning some rooftop drinks in Paris. The Earful Tower’s intern Avery Lewis Stout has visited five rooftop experiences to test them out, some of them are quite new indeed. Over to you, Avery.

One of the things on my bucket list for my time in Paris was to visit a rooftop bar with a beautiful view. And for this story, I was lucky enough to visit five. Here’s what I found.
Most Iconic: Le Bar a Bulles at the Moulin Rouge
We’re starting out this list with the most iconic bar. Situated on top of the Moulin Rouge, it has the wow factor, and you would never know it was hidden up there. You enter through a side entrance to the famed cabaret below, then you keep going up until you hit the red windmill.

The bar itself is very big, but spots on the top floor next to the windmill can be limited, (and if they are all taken, then at least it’s always possible to just go up and see!) I recommend visiting before sunset and grabbing a seat to watch the wings of the windmill light up in the dusk. The drinks were delicious, but the showstopper was the smashed potatoes.
Price for a cocktail: 12-13.5€
Address: 90 bd de Clichy, 75018 Paris

Best View: Maggie Rooftop
This one is my favourite of the five by far, no question. They don’t take reservations, but I was able to walk in around 6pm. It has a less traditional view, the Eiffel Tower is small in the distance. But: The benefit of being tucked away in the 9th means that Sacre Coeur is looming over you, so close that you can point out the details in the archeticture, and much closer than it looks in the picture, I promise. There isn’t a monument you can’t see from afar, and I had fun seeing how many I could pick out.

The drinks are tasty and refreshing, they have an inventive spritz menu that’s perfect for a sunny day. The vibe of the bar is relaxed and modern. I recommend it as the perfect ending or beginning to a Paris summer vacation, once I got up there, I never wanted to leave.

Price for a cocktail: 15-17€
Address: 55 Blvd Marguerite de Rochechouart, 75009 Paris

Most Classic: Hotel Dame des Arts
This is the most classic bar on the list, the rooftop to go to when you really want to feel like you’re a part of the city. It’s located in the center of Paris on top of a four-star hotel, and it has the rooftop charm you’re looking for. The view is completely open and unobstructed and you’re situated above the Parisian roofline.

It’s the ideal place to watch the Eiffel Tower sparkle or to bask in the sun, so there isn’t a wrong time of day to go. The bar itself is chic and modern, the cocktails are inventive, and there are good happy hour snacks. Reservations are essential.

Price for a cocktail: 19-23€
Address: 4 Rue Danton, 75006 Paris

Best Friday Night Spot: Le Perchoir
Looking for a weekend spot? Try Le Perchoir in Menilmontant. The crowd is young and the scene is busy. They have a DJ and a cozy well-lit seating area that lets you watch the sunset from inside the bar area, as well as from the rooftop terrace itself.

The drinks are creative and delicious, especially the ‘Litchi Lohan’, best enjoyed from one of the interior couches, the most comfortable seat in the house.

Price for a cocktail: 13-15€
Address: 14 Rue Camille Crespin du Gast, 75011 Paris

One for the locals: Hotel National des Arts et Métiers
This is the most hidden place on the list: here you’ll mostly find Parisians having a drink after work. It’s quite aligned with the height of the other rooftops around it, which lessens the view but gives you the feeling of being right in the center of things.

I found it a bit crowded, and they have some plants covering the view, but overall it’s a lovely area. It’s not a place to cross town for, necessarily, but if you find yourself walking in that area, it’s a good choice for a spot to sit and drink.

Price for a cocktail: 15-20€
Address: 243 Rue Saint-Martin, 75003 Paris
And that’s it! Happy rooftopping!
