Seven ways to satisfy your sweet tooth in Paris

Paris is world-renowned not just for Michelin-starred restaurants, but also its patisseries, chocolateries and other havens of delicious delights.

This week on The Earful Tower we chatted with Frank Adrian Barron, an American baker in Paris (better know as Cake Boy Paris). It got us reminiscing about all the times we’ve had a sweet tooth in the past, so we’ve made a collection of every time we’ve talked about anything and everything sweet.

1) Explore Sweet Paris with an American baker

Frank is an American baker who recently released his cookbook Sweet Paris. We spoke with him on the podcast about how he made it as a baker in the city and how he goes about sharing his sweet treats on social media. More info here or have a listen below.

Bonus: for Patreon members, here’s the link to the video where Frank showed us around the chocolate shops on Rue de Bac.

2) Learn how to make French pastries online

Esteemed baker Molly Wilkinson was on the podcast speaking with us about her journey to teaching people all over the world how to make French pastries. Listen below or wherever you get your podcasts.

3) Find the vegan donut shop that proved a hit in Paris

French pastries haven’t been the only baked goods on the Earful Tower menu over the years. Amanda Bankert, owner of Boneshaker Doughnuts, has been serving up top-quality donuts to Parisians and visitors alike since 2015. She has appeared on the show in the past, sharing the entertaining story of setting up her now-famous shop and the challenges that came with it.

More recently, check out this walk we did with Amanda along the Coulée Verte as well as the blog post all about Vegan Paris which featured her cookbook Voilà Vegan, detailing how she how she secretly transformed her traditional donut shop to be entirely plant-based.

4) Join us on a mille-feuille making class

You might know a mille-feuille as a Napoleon, a custard slice, or a vanilla slice. But we all know it as delicious, especially when it’s freshly baked.

For this episode, you’ll join our team as we prepare this iconic dessert at Cook’n With Class, complete with some pastry and chocolate tips from chef Christian. And remember: This isn’t a how-to guide for making the pastries, there are plenty of them online, this is more of a “join us as we do it”.

5) Learn how to make your own chocolate in Paris

Expert chocolatière Marielle Bourat dispensed her wisdom on chocolate-making, honed over three generations. She explained where chocolate fits on the French food chain, talks about her Bean To Bar chocolate-making classes at Atelier C in the 12th arrondissement, and discusses the shop’s magnificent location in the Viaduc des Arts.

6) Explore the best chocolate spots in Paris

Chocolate guru Michael Huffman spent a solid decade tasting chocolate in Paris. Having visited a multitude of chocolateries across the city, he created a map of the top twenty five chocolate spots to drop into. Click here to read his his top tips of chocolate indulgence, or listen below to hear the podcast we recorded with him in 2018.

7) Meet the man matching his shoes to his French pastry

Famously, Paris is both a culinary and fashion capital. Pastry chef Tal Spiegel is a man who combines these two worlds on his Instagram page. He appeared on the podcast to talk about this unique project of matching his shoes to his pastries.
